Why we built this

We started RanksVs because we got burned.

A few years back, one of us was running an HVAC shop. Two trucks, growing fast, drowning in paperwork. It was time to get real software. So we did what everyone does: Googled "best field service management software" and started reading.

Every "independent" comparison site ranked the same product #1. The reviews were glowing. Five stars across the board. We signed a 12-month contract, paid the setup fee, and spent two months onboarding.

The software was wrong for our size. We were a 2-truck operation paying for features built for 50-truck companies. The "comparison" that convinced us was written by the software company's marketing agency. We found that out later.

That contract cost us over $8,000 before we got out. That is a used van. That is two months of a tech's salary. And the worst part is we are not special. This happens to shop owners every day.

So we built the site we wish existed when we were searching.

What makes us different

We show real prices.

Not "contact us for a quote." Not "$99/month*" with hidden fees in the fine print. The actual price you will pay, verified monthly. We know that $99/month plan is actually $5,000 in year one once you add setup, training, and add-ons. We tell you that.

We say what is bad about every product.

Every tool has real downsides. If support is slow, we say it. If the mobile app is clunky, we say it. If it is overkill for your size, we say it. You are not going to find "10/10, perfect for everyone" on this site.

We take a position.

We do not hide behind "it depends on your needs" for every question. If you have 3 trucks and you are looking at ServiceTitan, we will tell you straight: that is a new van's worth of money for software you will use 20% of. Start with Jobber or Housecall Pro.

Nobody pays for placement.

Product scores are based on features, ease of use, value, and user reviews. No vendor can pay for a higher score or a better position. We include products that have no affiliate program at all, and we will give them a higher score than a paying partner if they deserve it.

How we keep the lights on

Some of the products on this site have affiliate programs. When you click through to their site and sign up, we may get a commission. That is how we make money. We want to be upfront about that.

But here is the thing: we cover products that do not pay us anything. We give honest scores to products that pay us well. If Jobber is better than a product that pays us twice the commission, Jobber gets the higher score. Period.

We would rather build something people trust and grow it slowly than sell out for a quick payout. There are enough shady review sites on the internet already.
